For more than 300 years, DeKuyper has been the brand to turn to for fresh and original liqueurs. DeKuyper has survived this ever-changing market by combining its rich traditional expertise with modern innovations and a healthy dash of imagination. From the punch of Original Peachtree® Schnapps, the fiery bite of Hot Damn!® Schnapps to the mouthwatering tang of Sour Apple Pucker® Schnapps, John DeKuyper & Son has created a magical array of exciting flavors and colors.
How do they do it, you ask? Well, the process has taken hundreds of years to perfect. In a nutshell, The Colorful World of DeKuyper is all about extracting the flavors from the finest ingredients; these include herbs, seeds, citrus peel, fruit and more of nature's products.
The rich flavors are extracted in one of two ways. Fresh and dried fruit can be placed in alcohol where it will stay for several weeks; when aged properly, the alcohol will have infused with the essences of the fruit.
When using seeds, herbs and citrus peel, the process is a bit different. Here the raw materials themselves are distilled, resulting in a liqueur with the taste of its original natural source. Triple Sec, for example, is distilled from orange peels; it renders the essence of orange after the distilling process.
After the flavors are extracted, the products are prepared according to both new and ancient recipes. Various ingredients are added and may include brandy, herb and spice distillates and sugar. At this stage of the process, the mixture must sit for another several weeks to allow for the flavors to marry and develop into the finished product.
