Testarossa Vineyards, located in the historic Novitiate of Los Gatos, approximately sixty miles south of San Francisco, was founded in 1993 by the husband and wife team of Rob & Diana Jensen. The name Testarossa (Italian for "red-head") was a nickname given to Rob when he was a young university student studying abroad in Italy.
Testarossa is dedicated to making small lots of vineyard-designated wines from only the best vineyards in the cool-ocean influenced counties of Monterey, Santa Barbara and Sonoma. Year after year we receive exceptional quality fruit from the Bien Nacido Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. In Monterey County we have long-term relationships with the Sleepy Hollow Vineyard and the Pisoni Vineyard, both in the east-facing Santa Lucia Highlands Appellation, and, since 1999, with Rosella's Vineyard and Garys' Vineyard. Also in Monterey County, Testarossa is the first winery to produce a vineyard-designated Chardonnay from the Michaud Vineyard, farmed and owned by former 20-year Chalone Winemaker Michael Michaud. Recently we have begun to purchase grapes from Clos Pepe Vineyard, in Santa Ynez Valley, and are also closely working with three new Pinot Noir vineyards in Sonoma County.
Since 1994 over 60 Testarossa wines have been awarded 90+ scores by the top trade publications. We are the only winery to have both a Top 5 Chardonnay and a Top 5 Pinot Noir in both the 2000 and 2001 Wine Spectator's Annual Review Issues. Also in 2000, Wine & Spirits magazine honored us as an Artisan Winery of the Year and voted one of our wines as a Top Ten Wine of the Year. And last year, our Reserve Pinot Noir was selected as a Top 100 Wine of the Year by Wine Enthusiast, and our Sleepy Hollow Pinot was voted one of the Top Five Pinots of the Year by Wine & Spirits Magazine.
We are currently distributed in Arizona, California, Colorado, DC, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington State, and also sell directly from the winery. We have just begun distribution in the United Kingdom and Japan, and plan to expand both our domestic and international markets in the coming year in Arizona, California, Colorado, DC, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington State, and also sell directly from the winery. Straw color. Aromas of honey, nutmeg, banana, and passion fruit come readily out of the glass. The mouthfeel is initially lush and rich, transitioning to a crisp, ripe finish. Should age well for 4 to 5 years.

James Suckling
I rate wines using the 100-points scale. I have used this point system for close to 25 years. I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
