Winemaker's Notes
Opus One is known for its exquisite texture, and the 1999 vintage is no exception. The wine shows aromas of cassis, cloves and roasted almonds against a creamy texture of soft tannins and round, rich fruit. Offering flavors of plum, cherry and black pepper, the 1999 will be charming in its youth and expressive at maturity.
Vintage
Early in the growing season of 1999, cool temperatures delayed bud break and bloom in Opus One's vineyards. Welcome spring rains reduced flower counts, decreasing the number of grape berries and increasing flavor concentration. Moderate summer temperatures allowed the vines to thrive and the fruit to ripen at a steady pace. Early September rains preceded a glorious Indian summer, which put the final touches of maturity on a fine harvest.
Fermentation & Aging
The 1999 Opus One is composed of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec, and 1% Petit Verdot. Component lots received an average of 40 days' skin contact during fermentation and maceration, prior to 17 months of barrel aging in new French oak.

Wine Spectator
An exquisite, complex, stylish wine, wearing a cloak of earthy, leathery tannins around flavors of mineral, currant, earth and blackberry. Gains intensity and shows its depth and concentration on the finish, which is long and detailed. Best from 2004 through 2012. 24,000 cases made.

Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

Wines that are still in the barrel and have yet to be bottled. Futures offer the opportunity to invest in a wine before it arrives in our store.

Parker, Jr. Initially titled The Baltimore-Washington Wine Advocate the first issue was published in 1978. Accepting no advertising, the newsletter publishes in excess of 7,500 reviews per year, utilizing Parker's rating system that employs a 50-100 point quality scale.
