Tedeschi

Monte Olmi is the name of this vineyard, located at Pedemonte di Valpolicella in the heart of the Classic Valpolicella zone. The vineyard has a south-western exposure and is 2.5 hectares in size. It is designed on terraces to ensure water removal in case of abundant rainfall. At the same time the depth and the basically clayey structure of the terrain function to retain water during dry periods. Color: Strong ruby red with a light amber sheenClear and transparent. Bouquet: Notes of cherry, raspberry and red currant combined with notes of Slavonia oak. Flavor: Elegant and robust structure with good acidity. The after-taste confirms the character of the bouquet. Combinations: red meat and game - cheeses.

Wine Advocate

The 2004 Amarone della Valpolicella Capitel Monte Olmi oozes from the glass in a sumptuous, expression of smoke, tar, black cherries, spices and toasted oak. This massive, backward Amarone possesses tremendous reserves of power, which gradually come to life as the wine gains volume and breadth in the glass. The tannins remain imposing and in need of bottle age to soften. Not for the timid, the Amarone della Valpolicella Capitel Monte Olmi offers outstanding quality in a full-throttle style. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.

Score: 92. —Antonio Galloni, October 2008.

Wine Spectator

A dense, fruity red, with ripe wild strawberry, raisin, earth and sweet herb character. Full-bodied, with fine, firm tannins and thick, peppery fruit to finish. Delivers laser-guided flavors of dried fruit and black pepper. An intense Amarone. Best after 2010.

Score: 91. —Jo Cooke, February 28, 2009.
