The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve reflects both an exceptional vintage and extraordinary quality fruit from several highly acclaimed Napa Valley vineyards. These vineyards, because of outstanding clones, soils, microclimates and cultivation techniques, consistently produce wines with great complexity, structure and aging potential.
The wine explodes with rich aromas of cassis, spice and cedar, with nuances of orange zest. The intense, powerful flavors have deep layers of cherry, cassis and berry, with broad, muscular tannins, and a velvety finish.
Wine Spectator
Packed with currant, black cherry, plum, cedar and spice nuances, finishing long and complete, this Mondavi reserve is a dark, immense, deeply concentrated and sharply focused red. Best from 2002 through 2012.

Wine Advocate
As for the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, this wine seems more subdued than it did last year and might be going through a relatively closed stage. As it sat in the glass, it took on an almost Ducru-Beaucaillou or Leoville-Las Cases St.-Julien-like character, with notes of minerals, cedar wood, black currants, tobacco, and spice.
This is a rich, dark ruby/purple-colored wine with very complex aromatics, medium to full body, tight structure and plenty of tannin in the finish. There are 20,000 cases. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025.

Wine Enthusiast
Very tight nose, with blackberry, coffee and cocoa notes, this is a big wine that shows great intensity and depth. Quite closed now, the dark profile keeps its cards close to the vest. One thing for sure: this is definitely one for the cellar. The finish is lengthy, with brisk tannins as well as espresso and bitter-chocolate notes. Hold for eight to ten years; this wine should keep til 2020.

Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.
