Andrew Will

This vineyard has again stood up to its reputation as one of the best in WA. The wines are very dark and the nose is raspberry, tar and a lingering scent of flowers and forest coupled with an almost palpable mineral quality. The early sophistication of the nose is upheld by the serene middle plate and enticing finish.

Wine Advocate

The 2005 Ciel du Cheval is composed of 40% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc,14% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Petit Verdot. It offers up darker black fruit aromas and flavors with significantly more structure, grip, and power. It exhibits layers of spicy black fruits which should become increasingly opulent and glossy as it develops in the bottle. Give it a minimum of 5-7 years in the cellar and drink it through 2030.

Score: 93. —Jay Miller, June 2008.

Wine Enthusiast

A classic Bordeaux blend. Tight and chewy, this fragrant wine adds whiffs of tobacco to its red currant and cherry fruit. It is a beautifully shaped wine, precise and balanced, compact and intriguing. It will reward decanting and should be cellared for a few years to give maximum enjoyment.

Score: 92. —Paul Gregutt, May 01, 2008.
